One of my core priorities in running for Second Vice President of IAEM-USA is to elevate the profession by expanding professional development opportunities for all members. Our profession is strongest when we invest in one another, share knowledge, and create new pathways for growth.
An idea I would like to explore together is the creation of a Masterclass-style professional training series designed specifically for emergency managers. This would be a library of short, high-quality, on-demand or synchronous courses led by respected voices in our field—covering topics such as crisis communication, equity and inclusivity, resilience planning, adaptive leadership, and more.

Importantly, this concept is not intended to compete with academic programs. Instead, it would serve as a complement—providing flexible, accessible, and practical resources that strengthen emergency managers wherever they choose to pursue their education.
This type of training series could:
Expand access to professional development for members regardless of geography or career stage.
Highlight diverse experiences and perspectives that reflect the full strength of our profession.
Offer scalable, lasting resources that benefit both current and future leaders.
Create new revenue opportunities for IAEM-USA while also supporting course developers through royalties or development fees.
At this stage, this is not a proposal but a conversation starter. I want to hear from you, the members of IAEM-USA:
Would a training series like this support your growth?
What topics or voices would you like to see featured?
How can we ensure it is inclusive, accessible, and impactful for all?
As emergency managers, we know that leadership begins with listening. I look forward to engaging with you on this idea as we continue building the future of professional development for IAEM-USA.
